From the rolling hills of Gatara in northern Burundi comes this standout natural-process coffee from Masha Washing Station, a central hub for thousands of smallholder farmers. Perched just below 1,700 meters and surrounded by even higher-elevation farms, Masha has earned a reputation for excellence—most notably placing in the 2012 Cup of Excellence. The station’s name is derived from the Kirundi word "amasho", meaning “herds of cattle,” a nod to the region’s pastoral roots.
This is our first time sourcing a naturally processed lot from Masha, and it’s a beauty. Dried in the fruit, this method infuses the beans with deep, layered fruit complexity. The dry aroma carries bold notes of red berries and a subtle winey undertone, like fermented fruit juice. As the brew unfolds, you’ll pick up on flavors of dried blueberry, strawberry milk powder, and a nostalgic sweetness reminiscent of a chocolate milkshake swirled with blackberry syrup. A bold, fruit-forward Burundi with a twist—perfect for adventurous palates and lovers of natural coffees.
