Adilson Moreira Soares

Adilson Moreira Soares is a second-generation coffee producer and the steward of Recanto do Engenho Farm in Machado, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Continuing a family tradition of coffee cultivation, Adilson manages the farm alongside his family, combining generations of experience with a commitment to producing high-quality coffees that reflect the character of southern Minas Gerais.

At approximately 1,150 meters above sea level, Adilson oversees every stage of production, from caring for the coffee trees to harvesting, processing, and preparing each lot for export. His farm primarily cultivates Catuaí and other traditional Brazilian cultivars, which are naturally processed to develop the rich sweetness, chocolate notes, and smooth body that have become hallmarks of Brazilian specialty coffee.

Like many producers in Minas Gerais, Adilson has faced significant environmental challenges in recent years. Prolonged drought has reduced yields and placed increasing pressure on the farm’s water resources. In response, his family has invested in new water infrastructure while continuing to care for the land with a long-term perspective. Adilson has shared that his great-grandfather originally chose the property because of its abundant natural springs, making the preservation of those resources an important part of the farm’s legacy.

Rather than pursuing highly experimental processing methods, Adilson focuses on consistency, careful harvesting, and traditional natural processing techniques that highlight the coffee’s inherent sweetness and balance. His dedication to quality and sustainable stewardship has helped establish Recanto do Engenho as a respected producer within Brazil’s renowned Sul de Minas coffee region.

Today, Adilson continues to build upon his family’s legacy, producing coffees that celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of Minas Gerais while sharing the warmth, craftsmanship, and hospitality that define Brazilian coffee culture.
