Albany is the center of southwest Georgia's farm country, on the Flint River in a region of pecan orchards and peanut fields, and the town serves the growers, processors and packing plants around it. The regional hospital system is the largest employer, the Marine Corps logistics base on the east side brings a military and civilian workforce, and Albany State University adds a campus calendar.
