Lakeland sits halfway between Tampa and Orlando on Interstate 4, a city of lakes with a downtown around Munn Park and Lake Mirror. Publix is headquartered here, and the corporate offices, the hospitals and the distribution centers along I-4 make up a large weekday workforce. Florida Southern College, with its Frank Lloyd Wright campus, and Southeastern University add a student calendar, and the churches are large and numerous. Downtown's cafes and bakeries serve both, and spring training brings a February and March crowd.
