Nestled in the hills near Santa Rita do Sapucaí, Fazenda Santa Maria is a century-old estate steeped in history and heart. Managed by Maria Dorotéia, the farm has been in her family for over 150 years and stands as a living legacy, where antique furnishings and a 101-year-old farmhouse offer a glimpse into Brazil’s agricultural past.
Set at elevations ranging from 800 to 1,200 meters, the farm cultivates Red Catuaí, Rubi, Arara, Catucaí, and decades-old Mundo Novo across 120 hectares. Alongside coffee, the family runs a dairy operation—earning them the affectionate phrase: “coffee and cream.” Maria is also deeply committed to sustainable farming, producing her own organic fertilizer from straw, ash, and manure, and planting ground cover to nurture soil health.
This naturally processed lot bridges classic Brazilian richness with a surprising fruity lift. The dry fragrance shows layers of cocoa, raw sugar, and a subtle touch of dried date. Brewed, it opens into a molasses-like sweetness, with comforting notes of almond bars, chocolate pistachio, and banana walnut bread. There’s even a hint of Sherry in the background. A nuanced Brazil, offering warmth and depth with just enough fruit to keep you coming back.
