Medium Roasts

Medium is where we roast most of our coffees — deep enough to build sweetness and body, light enough that the farm and the process still speak. If you want one bag that works across drip, espresso, and a French press, start here.

Good questions

Where most of our coffees live, and why.

What medium roast coffee actually is

Roast level is a decision about how much of the flavor comes from the fire and how much comes from the farm. Medium is the balance point: enough development to build sweetness and body, not so much that everything starts tasting like roast. It's where we take most of our coffees, because our whole premise — the farm, the process, the price on the listing — only matters if you can still taste it.

Within this page the range is real: Brazil Machado drinks like comfort, all chocolate and nut; El Salvador Finca San Luis, grown on the volcanic Apaneca-Ilamatepec range, carries a little more spark. Both handle a drip machine, a French press, and an espresso basket without complaint — which is the practical virtue of a medium roast.

What does a medium roast taste like?

Sweetness and body from the roast, with the farm and process still speaking — caramel and chocolate tones without the char of darker roasting.

Does dark roast coffee have more caffeine?

No — roast level barely changes caffeine. Dark roasts taste stronger because of roast flavor and bitterness, not because there's more caffeine in the cup. If "strong" means intensity, try a medium roast pulled as espresso.

Which medium roast is most approachable?

Brazil Machado for chocolate-and-nut comfort, or El Salvador Finca San Luis for something a touch livelier.
