Its port has long been one of the country's main entry points for green coffee, and the city still drinks its own dark, chicory-laced tradition alongside a newer wave of specialty cafes in the Marigny, the Bywater, Uptown and Mid-City. The hotels of the French Quarter, the Central Business District and the convention center serve more visitors than almost any city its size, the restaurants are the reason many of them came, and the universities and hospitals keep a large weekday workforce.
