Getting the cart to Dauphin Island

About 110 miles: I-10 through Mobile, south down Dauphin Island Parkway, then over the bridge. A long day rather than an overnight, but it still takes the cart and a barista off the Gulf Coast calendar, so ask earlier than you would for Mobile or Fairhope.

Two honest points. If weather closes the bridge there is no second route onto the island, and we say so at booking rather than on the morning of your event. Once we are out there, restocking means a round trip to the mainland, so we load for the whole event before leaving Pensacola.

What Dauphin Island events look like

The island has no venue circuit, no event halls or hotel ballrooms, which is exactly why people choose it and why planning differs. Most of what happens here is staged at a rented beach house: weddings of 40 to 100, family reunions around a week-long rental, milestone birthdays and anniversary weekends.

The rest is institutional and seasonal. The Sea Lab and Estuarium bring education and nonprofit work. Spring brings birders to a first-landfall stop on the migration route. Setting up at Dauphin Island venues

Rental houses on pilings. Almost every house here is raised, and the cart does not go up stairs. It needs an 8 by 8 foot spot at ground level: a driveway, a slab, a carport or a concrete patio under the house. Plan the coffee for the ground floor, not the top deck.

Power. One dedicated 110v circuit, and on a rental this is the thing most likely to go wrong. Ground-level outlets often share a circuit with an outdoor freezer, a pump or the string lights someone just hung. Find out which breaker feeds the outlet we will use.

Beach and open-sand service points. Usually no power and always soft ground. The cart needs a hard, flat surface, so a deck, boardwalk or pavilion works and open sand does not. Wind off the Gulf takes cups and napkins with it.

Sand and shell driveways. Common here, and worth mentioning early: they decide how close a van gets before we start pushing.

Yes, for booked events. It is not our home market and we do not pretend it is. It is about two hours each way over the bridge, and travel is quoted with the event so you can see what the distance costs.

There is no alternate route onto the island, so there is nothing to improvise around. We watch the forecast in the days before an island date and call you early if it looks doubtful, rather than at service time.
